In April 2024, a parent who threw a diaper with feces on a daycare teacher was given a suspended prison sentence. Judge Ko Young-sik of the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 9 sentenced Mr. A, in his 40s, who was tried for assault, to six months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence, and also ordered him to complete 80 hours of community service. Mr. A reportedly hit the face of daycare teacher B (in his 60s) with a diaper from his second son's feces, causing injuries that required two weeks of treatment. Mr. B's face and clothes, glasses, and other items were all stained with human feces. The court stated, "The nature of the crime is unsatisfactory, including hitting the victim's face with a diaper stained with feces to cause injury, and the teacher in question felt humiliation and psychological shock. He explained the sentencing by saying, "He admitted to the crime and considered that the injury was not serious," but the prosecution appealed, claiming the sentence was too lenient. The appellate court, which accepted the prosecution's appeal, sentenced Mr. A to six months in prison, pointing out, "According to common social norms, intentionally smearing another person's face—whether planned or accidental—is intended to insult the other party." He continued, "The defendant simply,,, It wasn't that the diaper was thrown away, but that the victim's face was rubbed so badly that their glasses were broken and a significant amount of feces was stained on their face, hair, top, and lenses, which is considered a serious crime." Mr. B's Mr. C, her husband, said, "Bad teachers can be punished, but what about teachers who can't avoid bad parents? Please institutionalize a shield that teachers can defend themselves against." How can you slap your son with a poop diaper just because you abused your son??? Kindergarten teachers don't see them as people???
