On the 17th, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment proposed a 'separate payment method for cups' in the presidential briefing, aiming to prevent plastic disposable cups from being provided free of charge as currently and instead requiring them to be purchased for a fee. However, for plastic straws, customers will be allowed to provide them free of charge. Minister Kim Sung-hwan explained that stores should autonomously decide how much plastic disposable cups will charge, but at least set a 'minimum line' reflecting production costs, around 100–200 won, and mentioned the possibility of discounts when using personal tumblers. Currently, the policy to reduce the use of disposable cups is the 'Disposable Cup Deposit System,' where customers had to pay a deposit (300 won) to receive drinks in disposable cups at cafes,   and if the cup was returned to the store, the deposit would be refunded. It was promoted during the Moon Jae-in administration and was scheduled to be implemented nationwide in June 2022, but due to concerns about burdens for small business owners, it was only implemented in Sejong and Jeju in December of the same year, and later under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, By not expanding it nationwide, the company was effectively on the verge of abolishing it. In response, President Lee Jae-myung said at the Climate Ministry's presidential briefing that day, "Disposable cups always get into conflicts whenever the administration changes," and pointed out that the cup deposit system feels like 'tabletop administration.' Coffee prices are already high these days,,, so even if disposable cup prices are included,,,,, you can't just buy it!! you have to drink it even if you freeze to death!!!!!!
