On the 29th, immediately after the meeting, National Security Office Director Wi Seong-rak said, "The two leaders discussed not only the economic situation but also comprehensive agendas including alliance modernization, peace on the Korean Peninsula, regional affairs, and Korea-U.S. shipbuilding cooperation in shipbuilding," adding, "They agreed to hold follow-up consultations for South Korea's nuclear-powered submarines." President Lee stated, "South Korea-U.S. relations must develop into a modernized alliance and a future-oriented comprehensive strategic alliance," adding, "South Korea also intends to significantly enhance its own defense capabilities through increased defense spending and the development of the defense industry." He continued, "Since Korea is recognized as ranked fifth in the world in military power evaluations, our military strength is not lacking," but added, "To reduce the burden of U.S. defense costs, we will ensure support for South Korea's defense industry and increase defense budgets." Director Wi continued, "At the meeting, President Lee highly praised the role of the Korea-U.S. alliance in maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, and in response to the rapidly changing regional security environment in the post-Cold War era, he will increase defense spending along with nuclear-powered submarines. It's not that we want to build them,,,, "Since diesel submarines have low submerging capability, if possible, if fuel supply is allowed, we can build several submarines equipped with conventional weapons using our technology and conduct defense activities in the East Sea and West Seas of our Korean Peninsula, which could significantly reduce the burden on the U.S. military." President Trump expressed agreement that South Korea needs nuclear-powered submarine capabilities in response to changes in conditions such as North Korea's nuclear submarine construction, and proposed follow-up consultations , according to Director Wi. Director Wi emphasized the overall meeting, "The key achievement was confirming the U.S. side's active cooperation on various strategic issues for alliance modernization," ,,, But isn't this a blatant declaration in front of Trump that the 'U.S. Forces Korea' is unnecessary??? or is it that we will do strong defense often and should not pay more defense spending??? Didn't Trump talk about defense spending??????
