As of the end of August 2025

As Korea's foreign exchange reserves increased mainly through foreign currency management income, they recovered to 422.02 billion dollars (about 600 trillion won) at the end of September, up 5.73 billion dollars from the previous month. Although the amount of foreign exchange reserves has been increasing for four consecutive months, the amount is far from sufficient for the cash investment in the U.S. requested by the U.S. side, raising concerns that uncertainty in Korea-U.S. tariff negotiations could increase volatility in the foreign exchange market and lead to more frequent exchange rate defense movements. U.S. Treasury and corporate bonds, which account for the majority of foreign exchange reserves, securities such as securities increased by $12.25 billion to $378.42 billion, while gold, which does not reflect market prices, remained at $4.79 billion, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Special Drawing Rights (SDR) remained unchanged at $15.78 billion.  Deposits ($18.54 billion) and IMF positions ($4.49 billion) decreased by $6.47 billion and $50 million, respectively. As of the end of August, Korea's foreign exchange reserves stood at $416.3 billion, ranking 10th in the world, but Korea lost its ninth place to 10th place for the first time since the 2000 rankings were compiled last March, behind Germany and Hong Kong. Although the U.S. side is demanding a full cash investment of $350 billion, the Bank of Korea has raised the maximum without reducing its foreign exchange reserves. The possible amount is estimated at around 20 billion dollars, with 15 billion dollars allocated by foreign exchange authorities and 5 billion dollars raised in foreign currency bonds. As central banks around the world expand their gold holdings, there are calls for the Bank of Korea to increase its gold holdings, according to the World Gold Council (WGC).   According to reports, the Bank of Korea's gold reserves stand at 104.4 tons, unchanged for 12 years, ,,,and China, which ranks first in foreign exchange reserves ($3.3222 trillion), has been aggressively purchasing gold by increasing its reserves by 2,279.6 tons last year. Even if the U.S. allows a currency swap, it will never reach 350 billion won!! which is impossible!!,,,, It would be better to just do it as a blanket!!!!!!
